Working with Jamie has helped me improve the quality of my riding dramatically. Making each and every ride just the little more purposeful has equated to many successes on and off the bike. Jamie’s knowledge of our sport has been invaluable and he is always looking for new methods to help us succeed. I could not recommend Jamie highly enough if you want to get more out of your chosen sport whether you are a complete amateur or taking on the sports elite.

Working with Jamie has absolutely boosted the quality of my riding, so much so I was a bit shocked how noticeable the impact was. All the advice and coaching I have received has been second to none. He really gets everything you need, especially for someone like myself who doesn’t sit still for long - refuelling and recovery are a huge importance for me. His knowledge of what my sport demands and the systems he uses to address these are an attribute to his skill and time he puts into all aspects of his athletes. And their results show it. Jamie has helped me reach some big personal goals, I couldn’t have done this without his knowledge, time and help. Highly highly recommended - still working with him and loving it!!

Jamie goes above and beyond for any service he provides. He has a refreshingly practical approach that took away the guess work and gave me the confidence to focus on the process rather than peripherals. His strategies are supported by an excessive amount of research which he spends hours pouring over but somehow manages to communicate in a way that is easy to understand. He is the most innovative and athlete-focused coach I have had the pleasure of dealing with.

I have been on the complete enduro program with Jamie for 3 months. We found some big issues with my diet and addressing these has been a game changer for me, with much improved recovery and energy levels. The gym program and bike work has been really well put together. I'm feeling stronger than ever descending, and my power numbers have improved. I feel as though I'm coming into the race season in the best shape of my life and can't wait to get racing! Wish I was on the program years ago.

As athletes we are remarkably good at over-stressing our bodies. But by adding in and monitoring the correct amount of protein and fuel relative to the stresses I was applying to my body, I've felt the adaptation to my training speed up. Better sleep, better moods, and better balance, equals better performances and less time out from training due to illness and injury. Two years on from first working with Jamie on my nutrition, I now get to choose when and how I give my body a break and not have my body breakdown on me so easily.

As a late starter in cycling, I have looked for every small gain possible to fast-track my development, but after changing my diet a couple of years ago I became increasingly slow to recover and persistently tired. It was pretty clear that Jamie knew what he was talking about from the beginning and within about 3 weeks I am just about a different person. Working with Jamie has shown me that not only should I have addressed diet to start with, but that Jamie's pragmatic approach to fuelling is the right way for me.

My name is Sophie Hicks and I’m a competitive long distance runner, based in Dunedin. I started working with Jamie after when I was working through injury as well as the repercussions of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). Not only did Jamie help me recover from RED-S, but also taught me so much the importance of nutrition, and its direct effect on my performance, and more importantly, recovery.

I met with Jamie after hearing him speak at a couple of events in Christchurch. At that time I was in a poor state of energy availability, high stress, poor sleep and still training at a high level. Jamie’s approach is a simple one of more energy in, better recovery and an awareness of all stresses (mental and physical) contributing to physical performance. In our time working together, we have addressed simple nutrition strategies, strength & conditioning principles and modified my training to fit my menstrual cycle.

Playing an amateur and female-focussed sport like Roller Derby means that there is little support, structure, or research to help athletes in this field progress. I appreciate Jamie’s willingness to keep experimenting and tweaking to find the right approach for both myself and my goals in an emerging and currently underrepresented sport.

Having previously had an eating disorder, and after a period of two consecutive injuries, I needed a healthier approach to eating. I contacted Jamie for help with understanding how to fuel for training and performance, and the recovery needed with running 100-130km per week. The return to speed, strength and recovery from hard efforts and long training sessions with a tailored approach to my physiology and the training plan has been surprising and rewarding after just four weeks back into full training. The support and depth of knowledge transitioning during the first month and ongoing has been superb.

I am an ultrarunner who was getting really confused with all of the conflicting nutrition advice, and training programmes available. It was very clear from the outset that Jamie knew exactly what he was talking about, and within a couple of days I was on a delicious eating plan that made an enormous difference to me.

After suffering a lower leg stress fracture late October 2018, I have not been able to run at all. I was a competitive marathon runner so this was a very challenging time for me. Following the initial diagnosis, I had 4 MRI scans, each showing little to no healing, further adding to my feelings of discouragement. After being under Jamie's guidance for 4-5 months, a follow up MRI showed the fracture had mostly healed and the cartilage had begun to repair. My surgeon said that even if he was able to operate, the results shown on the MRI through just changing nutrition were as good as he could have hoped for through surgery.

I've been working with Jamie for a few months now and the difference I have felt in energy levels, both with my training and my work, has been so encouraging. I thought I knew what I was doing with my nutrition, but I was underfueling, impacting my training and racing. I am now more organized with my habits and I prioritize food and fueling correctly. Jamie is very knowledgeable around fueling for athletes and their specific sports, he understands the female cycle and encourages athletes to work with it to their advantage. I wish I had got to my nutrition earlier but am so glad I am now under the guidance of Jamie.

The advice Jamie gave me has been a complete game changer for my training and recovery. I was blown away with how easy it was to stick to and how well my body was adapting to the changes. I cannot recommend Jamie enough; he truly cares about his clients, and I felt very supported and listened to throughout the process!

I went to see Jamie because I wanted to train and run 100 miles in a safe way that preserved my future running health. Jamie took the time to listen to my goals, lifestyle and eating preferences for whole foods. He gave me simple, straightforward guidelines for a base diet, that was realistic, manageable and which I followed with ease. The eating plan, tailored to my menstrual cycle, really has helped with training and recovery. I have no doubt I was able to train properly, finishing my long runs with confidence, because I had heaps of consistent energy, thanks to Jamie.

After spending (and wasting) a lot of time and money trying to do things with an online MTB training program and using a gym personal trainer to try figure my way through the rabbit warren of over-information and social media fads, and after not getting the results I wanted, I turned to Jamie through a recommendation from a fellow racer. We had a coffee meeting to discuss my short and long term goals for Enduro MTB racing and set about getting my nutrition on track, accommodating my vegetarian dietary preferences, and implementing a training program around my busy work schedule and young family. With so much misinformation at your fingertips on social media, it’s very easy to head down the wrong path. The best use your of time and money is to get Jamie, a qualified professional, on board to start the process. You will be surprised how simple it actually is. Trust the process and the results will come.

I first approached Jamie for some guidance on training for the Whaka100 MTB race, while also wanting some help with creating a healthier lifestyle. Jamie challenged me to change my perspective on how I was living day to day and how to integrate a full training load whilst maintaining a balanced lifestyle. His knowledge across multiple disciplines (nutrition, strength training and mountain biking) has helped me develop a fresh perspective on riding and racing. Jamie breaks things down into simple pieces of information that are easy to understand and encourages a balanced training regime, meaning you work hard but also rest well. The knowledge gained and lessons learned goes beyond just finishing a bike race and I’m stoked with the progress I’ve made. While Covid restrictions meant the Whaka100 got canceled, I have had nothing but value from the support and advice Jamie has provided. I’m playing a long game and am excited to be back on the start line again soon. I cannot recommend Jamie enough for anyone who wants to make positive changes in their life whether they’re an athlete or not!

After 9 years of rowing and 5 years of elite level road cycling, I understood the nutrition played a key role in my performance. However, piecing together the puzzle for me was a different story altogether. I found myself in a constant battle with the food I was eating, the amount of training I was doing and trying to hold down a job which can be physically demanding. The perfect storm was created - motivation went out the window - and a constant fatigue with what I was doing was setting in. Jamie’s attitude and approach to nutrition really resonated with me. His knowledge on all things sport performance was second to none (I learnt more in an hour having a coffee than in 5 years of trial and error). Jamie’s plan was simple, easy to follow, and was followed up a willingness to answer any stupid question I had - be it nutrition or performance related. This resulted in a happier and more energised me, in all aspects of my life, not just my sport.

Competing in a sport with a weight class comes with its own set of challenges. Maintaining weight while eating the right foods and getting the necessary nutrition to increase strength was a constant source of anxiety. I was struggling with energy levels and achieving optimal recovery between training sessions. Jamie listened to my needs and incorporated my goals into the plan that he prescribed. His approach was easy to follow and expanded my knowledge, unlike a lot of the nutrition gimmicks that I had been buying into. Jamie’s commitment to educate me on his process so that I always understood the reasoning and facts behind his choices really impressed me. I always felt that I could reach out with any concerns or questions and that my feedback was listened to and utilized. I would not only recommend his services for competition preparation but also just for general quality of life.

I'm absolutely blown away with the results I have seen with myself while working with Jamie. I started seeing him as my nutritionist just a couple of months ago (August 2019) in order to help get my weight back under control and to help me with my goal of completing a 100 Mile Ultra Marathon. Initially I thought it would be a struggle to change my eating habits. I rarely cook, and was rather fussy about what I eat. However, Jamie's approach made it easy. I am now eating much healthier options, more whole food meals, and I'm even saving money as I used to eat a lot of take away meals.

I was really low when I first approached Jamie. I’d had 7 months of sinus issues and tried a lot of approaches without much success. Having some nutrition papers myself I considered my knowledge pretty reasonable, however after my first chat with Jamie I realised how little I knew. From the first phone call he reassured me and we’ve been able to make changes to the point where I’ve raced my best run from a pacing perspective, largely down to Jamie and his nutrition plan. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him, whether your focus is for health or performance.

Jamie has a deep understanding of human physiology and a talent for converting that knowledge into simple, practical strategies for nutrition and training. He knows and understands the importance of protein and satiety for women and builds his programs around that. He also provides helpful insights into training and eating for the different phases of the menstrual cycle. I have spoken to more than one person who says that if there is a problem with strength or nutrition, one should "ask Jamie about that".

Jamie "prescribed" protein. A lot of protein. Almost three times the amount of protein that I was eating. I started on his plan straight away and the results were instant. I went from crawling through my days panicked and hungry and so tired it felt like my teeth were falling out and crying at the drop of a hat ... to feeling full and replete and safe and happy and strong and in control.

A few months ago I was at a bit of a low point where I was frustrated, I wasn’t able to do much training, struggling with recovery and bouncing between different illnesses. I didn’t really know where I was going wrong. I made contact with Jamie after several good friends made the recommendation and I was interested to see if I could make some improvements in this area. Straight away Jamie was very easy to chat with and it was clear he had a wealth of knowledge. Together we made some tweaks to the day-to-day nutrition – mostly in relation to quantity. All of this was made easy to understand and follow with a simple plan all working around my food preferences. It didn’t take long for the changes we’d made to take effect. I had energy again! I was back training and no longer struggling with normal daily tasks. Not to mention far fewer sugar cravings – there was simply no room; I was finally fuelling my body adequately with the right stuff. I felt like Jamie went above and beyond with his service to ensure I got the best out of myself and got the answers I needed to help me continue on my fitness journey. The continual support I received was amazing – no question went unanswered.
